Can someone explain why the deflationary part of bitcoin is good

I should probably start w/ I'm pro bitcoin. I'm just trying to still understand the value after the last bitcoin is mined. Economic critics I've read, including some Yale economic papers, say investing in a deflationary currency is bad. I'm just not sure why it will necessarily be deflationary.
