Holding keys? Help explaining this?

My wife is apprehensive on holding keys and holding cold wallets as the only safe way to hold BTC? The thought of losing the keys or getting it stolen is too easy for it to happen and not a very secure method of holding you you wealth. What are methods to make this more secure if any?
